At Dutchman Dental, LLC, we provide amalgam fillings for patients that have experienced tooth decay and need to have their tooth restored to a natural condition. While there are several options for treating tooth decay, commonly known as cavities, amalgam fillings have been a dependable solution throughout modern history. If you live in the Wakefield and Tiverton, RI area and are experiencing tooth discomfort, we invite you to schedule an appointment and to see if you have a cavity that needs to be treated and if amalgam fillings are necessary for doing so. Amalgam Fillings versus Ceramic Ones
In our Tiverton and Wakefield dental offices, we perform dental restorations and treat infections on a daily basis. We have found that there are two main groups of patients – ones that are primarily concerned with function and ones that are primarily concerned with esthetics. Both amalgam fillings and ceramic fillings can achieve a similar goal by restoring a tooth that has decayed, but there are some distinct differences. If your primary concern is function and durability, an amalgam filling is probably your best option because, historically, it will last longer and is less likely to become damaged. A ceramic filling, on the other hand, can also restore a decayed tooth and does a good job of it. Ceramic fillings, however, may only last half of the time that amalgam ones do so while their appearance looks natural, you will have to plan for a repeat procedure within ten years or less.
We treat patients throughout the 02878 or 02879 areas and are regularly asked if amalgam fillings are safe for use. In fact, they are and have been used for the past 150 years to successfully restore damaged and infected teeth. Amalgam is created by mixing mercury with at least one other metal, and it is increasingly popular due to its low cost, durability, and lifespan. Many people that receive these types of fillings can use them for a lifetime without them needing to be replaced though on average, they should last for at least ten years. This makes them an excellent solution for those that do not want to repeat a dental procedure in the future.
Another benefit of amalgam fillings is that they can be manipulated into virtually any shape. If you live in Tiverton or Wakefield and need a filling, amalgam can take whatever shape it needs to in order to restore your tooth. It remains soft for a short period of time before hardening, allowing us to make any changes that are necessary. Simultaneously, the ability for the material to be molded, makes it easier for us to get your bite just right. Those who have had both composite and amalgam fillings, often find that their bite feels normal faster when using amalgam. While we offer both in our Rhode Island dental office, this is one distinct advantage of using amalgam fillings on back molars.Explore additional topics covered on our website:
