At Dutchman Dental, LLC we use CEREC dentistry as a way to provide chairside restorations for those living in Tiverton or Wakefield and the 02878 or 02879 area. This innovative and modern approach to dental care is ideal for patients that have a busy lifestyle and do not have the time nor the inclination to visit our office repeatedly when needing to get a dental crown. Instead, our patients can receive their crown in one appointment. This makes the process faster and more comfortable, in general. If you live in Wakefield and Tiverton, RI and want to learn more, we invite you to call our offices in Wakefield at 401-284-3308, or in Tiverton at 401-624-9177, and schedule an appointment.
Here is how it works –
If your tooth is cracked, chipped, has lost enamel or is otherwise damaged, you may need a dental crown in order to restore it to full functionality. If, however, it is infected, we will remove the infection first and once done, you will need a dental crown. In both scenarios, the tooth will need to be prepared by removing a portion of the enamel from all sides since a crown is a cap that surrounds the tooth and space needs to be created for it. This step is typically completed in the first or second appointment after a mold is taken of the mouth. Once prepared, the tooth cannot be exposed, so a temporary crown is secured to the tooth using a removable glue. Patients then go home, waiting for the permanent crown to be ready for placement which can take one to two weeks, depending on the dental lab.
CEREC dentistry has changed the process entirely. The damaged tooth still needs to be prepared for the final crown, however, instead of having the crown created in a dental lab, it is created in our office while you wait. This can be done quickly by leveraging technology and CAD imaging software. Patients throughout the 02878 or 02879 areas can benefit from this approach and the ability to have a crown created while you wait.
We start by taking digital images of the tooth being restored along with the teeth around it. These images are uploaded into our imaging software where CAD technology is used to create a digital image of what the tooth is supposed to look like. Beyond a simple picture, the exact dimensions of the tooth are identified, including every unique ridge and feature. This creates a blueprint of sorts that is sent to our modern 3D printer. Just like these printers are being used in design and to manufacture medical parts, they can also be used to create a dental crown while you wait. With the exact blueprint in hand, your crown will be printed layer by layer until it is complete. It is just as durable and natural looking as what the dental lab would create; only the process is done faster using modern, innovative technology. We can then place the permanent dental crown onto your tooth so there is no need to wear a temporary one, and you won’t have to come back for a second appointment. This makes the process of getting a dental restoration both convenient and easy, whether the restoration is needed to correct a damaged tooth or simply improve the appearance of your teeth.
